PHG Meeting Info

NOTICE: Meetings will be held both in-person and on Zoom until further notice. Zoom links are provided in the PHG Calendar where Zoom participation is available.

PHG meets on the second Thursday of every month during September - June at the Multnomah Art Center.

Morning Meetings 10am - noon, 9:30am social
Evening Meetings 7pm - 9pm, 6:30 social

Meetings are free and open to the public. Meetings generally follow the same agenda:

New Business/Discussions

  1. Study Group Policy
    • All groups are going well
    • Discussion on how study groups document/report activities, publicize meetings, provide accessibility to meeting notes
      1. A study group blog was suggested
    • Mailing lists will be created for each study group
    • Expectations of study group leaders
      1. Provide calendar information
      2. Keep meeting notes and post to the website
    • Study Group presentation at annual meeting in June.  Mostly here’s what we are doing and looking at right now, nothing fancy.
    • Use the blog to share presentations/resources
    • After much discussion a vote was taken, RESOLVED that Study Group member also be members of Portland Handweavers’ Guild.
    • Funding study group meeting space
      1. Should there be a minimum number of participants to qualify for rental subsidy?  6 was suggested.
      2. Motion: $200 annually for each study group, to spend for space rental as they would like.  Passed unanimously.
      3. Will be in the 2024-2025 budget.
  2. 2024-2025 Budget
    • Meeting space – could we go to a smaller space (the auditorium is cavernous)
    • Room 30 is less expensive than the auditorium (followup: only available in the evenings)
    • Current year program budget was $3500
    • We’ll review the budget next meeting
  3. Projected next year’s board
    • President – no one
    • Secretary – Lynne
    • Treasurer – Mike
    • Education – Linda
    • Sharon is a maybe for at large and program
    • Denise – still not sure what I’m doing

  4. Mannequins
    • They are at end of life
      1. Materials have inherent problems as they age
      2. Probably not usable again
    • We also don’t have storage for them
    • How do we sunset them?
      1. Noh coats returned
      2. Could also return the original outfits
    • Could buy new ones
    • Could offer the mannequins to the creators of the original outfits, then to the Noh Coat creators
    • Reach out to Judilee
  5. Strategic Planning Update
    • Dan met with the mentor
    • He would like to facilitate a strategic planning session
      1. Strengths, opportunities
      2. Where we want to go
      3. What we want to do
      4. In person or zoon?
      5. The board and some of the chairs
      6. Sometime in the summer
  6. GOTG update
    • Goal is to make a little bit of money
    • Logistics are resolved
    • Sold our allotment of booths
    • A couple of brand new vendors/members
    • It was a challenging year
    • We had a really good committee
  7. Connection with Columbia Fiber Arts Guild (we should)
