PHG Meeting Info

NOTICE: Meetings will be held both in-person and on Zoom until further notice. Zoom links are provided in the PHG Calendar where Zoom participation is available.

PHG meets on the second Thursday of every month during September - June at the Multnomah Art Center.

Morning Meetings 10am - noon, 9:30am social
Evening Meetings 7pm - 9pm, 6:30 social

Meetings are free and open to the public. Meetings generally follow the same agenda:

  1. Call to Order – Meeting started at 7:00pm
  2. Roll Call: Lynne Fitzsimmons, Linda Edquist, Robin Korybski, Dan Steves, Sylvia Emard, Sarah McCully-Posner, Lynette Peterson, Sue Walsh
  3. Approval of Minutes: March Board Meeting Minutes unanimously approved
  4. Individual Topics
  1. Board Positions Update (Sarah)
  • Dan will stand for President next year; he’ll still do ANWG, but will also offer it to Bertha Kao
  • Mike Kraybill will stand for Treasurer
  • Judee Moonbeam will manage Facebook and Instagram
  • Sylvia will publish the newsletter for one more year
  • Have not heard back from Judilee Fitzhugh about organizing the Fall Sale
  • Mannequin Manager – perhaps we should start recruiting?  Robin suggested we fill the other roles first.  Linda has received an email from Diane McKinnon; she’d like to be involved, in the restoration at least.  A storage space for the mannequins is also needed.

2. Workshops (Lynne)

  • Scope – felting will go into the interests survey; we’ll see what we get.  Maybe we can schedule a classroom in the MAC
  • Provide a draft for the proposed cancellation/refund policies change – move possible 100% refund back to 6 weeks out, as that is our drop dead date with the instructor.

3. WEGO Update (Sue)

  • Last meeting was April 16 via Zoom.  Zoom has been very good for WEGO; no traveling expense!
  • The Traveling Show is sending out cards; would like some to go to GOTG.  This is not just a WEGO thing; there will be articles for sale.  Articles for sale are due Nov/Dec.  The show will start in Roseburg and end in Salem. There should be something in our newsletter (done).
  • State Fair; Dorald is continuing as coordinator.  Weaving and spinning area is now Fiber Arts.  Submit entries!  Cash prizes!  The State Fair booklet is not yet available; possibly in June.  There was not a centralized pickup/return location last year; used to be Oaks Park or Ruthies.  The Mannequins have been invited to the Fair as an exhibit.  There are seven ready to go.  Sue offered up her vehicle for transport.  Linda offered up to come along and set up.  The Fair opens in August; Labor Day is the last day.
  • WEGO Grant- after many attempts to find a place to screen the film, a location could not be found. There was a thought to use it to underwrite the Patty Huffer workshop, but that would only benefit 6 people.  Dan will attempt to find a venue for the film for sometime in July.
  • WEGO conference is next year.  WEGO Guilds have a booth at the conference, get the request in now as space is limited.  There are booth discussions online; Dan knows where the discussion is kept.  Perhaps the mannequins need new outfits?  Lynne suggested the Noh coat, which is the WEGO garment.
  • WEGO meeting times need to be clarified.  The Fall Meeting is in person at the Riverhouse in Bend, the Spring meeting is back to Zoom.

4. Complex Weavers Ribbons (Sarah)

  • Do we need show ribbons?  Ginger in Bend weaves them; Complex Weavers has them available for awards.  We’ve never given a Complex Weavers award at GOTG.

5. Budget (Lynette)

  • She’ll provide an accounting through April for this year’s totals.  We’ll approve the budget at the Board Meeting in May.
  • Will this year’s actuals plus the proposed budget for next year be provided?  Many expenses that vanished during the pandemic will have returned (room rentals).  The gym is less expensive than Room 7.

6. Library (Robin)

  • Is it ok to use Library money to buy a reed for a rental loom?  Not finding enough books to buy.

7. MAC space rental requests

  • Can we rent a cottage (#6; good for dyeing!)
  • Can we rent the gym for an entire weekend (workshop)?  What would it cost?
  • Could we run a short beginning weaving workshop?  The MAC weaving classes are already fully subscribed, and there’s a lot of unmet demand.
