Small Looms Study group April 2024 minutes

Agenda:

  • Show and Tell
  • Questions and Problem Solving
  • Scope Discussion

Notes on the discussion:

The Wheel is an annual publication by Ashford that is recommended.

We watched the interesting parts of a youtube video by Kari Fell on Weaving a V-Cowl on a rigid heddle loom.

Some small looms for making samples were shown. They are from “Funky Craft Junkie” on etsy.

There was a discussion on how to use two heddles of the same size to double the sett,

The Schacht 9 inch mini boat shuttle was discussed because it is small enough to be used in the shed of many rigid heddle looms.

We decided that next month everyone should try to brink “Something to wear” that they have made.

Possible ideas for future meeting topics: Color Study (using randomly assigned crayon colors), take direction from an issue of Little Looms magazine but make one change in the design.

Study groups are to present what they have been doing at the June Guild meeting. Tentatively, we decided to show the wearable results that will be presented next meeting.

In discussing the scope of the group, it was decided that we wanted to minimize any overlap with band group but that we would not otherwise limit the scope. Therefore, tapestry weaving is “small loom”.
