As a volunteer organization, we are always looking for help. Whether your interest is a few hours a month, using a skill set for a one-time project, leading a committee or taking on a board role, we have a spot for you! Below is a list of opportunities to become involved. If you have an idea for involvement not listed, feel free to reach out to the President at president@portlandhandweaversguild.com
Monthly Meeting Ambassador – Help set up monthly meeting including chairs, tables and start the coffee
Community Outreach and Demonstrations – Promote PHG at community events like Art in the Pearl, demonstrate the art of weaving on PHG looms
Study group lead – lead discussion and assist members on a weaving related topic. Topics vary depending on the leader and member interests. (list current groups with as of date)
Workshop teacher – lead a 1-2 day workshop in an area of your expertise and provide a summary session at the monthly meeting. Instructor and topics require approval by Education Director (link to director email)
Committee participant or chair – participate in a committee and, if so inclined, lead a committee (include list of committees)
Board position – If you are looking for ways to impact our guild, a board position is a great way to get involved. We have detailed job descriptions, but the important question is “how much time does these jobs take?” well about 3 hours a week on average.
PHG Events – we have events that directly benefit the membership including the Fall Sale, Spring Sale / Gathering of the Guilds, and the WeftOver Sale. In each event, help is needed (include list of roles)
Partner Organization Liaison – as members of ANWG, HGA and others, we need members to act as liaisons to these organizations, including meeting attendance and reporting to PHG any items or actions that may be of interest to our members.
And we’re always looking for folks to help with all sorts of things. Luckily, we have page for that – Volunteer.
