Workshop: Double Trouble and Triple Treats – Mastering Multiheddle Weaving on a Rigid Heddle Loom
This two-day workshop at Ruthie’s Weaving Studio is led by PHG member and fiber artist Carly Jayne. Looking to explore the possibilities of a rigid heddle loom? This workshop will cover both 2 and 3 heddle weaving. You will be looking at threading drafts and profile drafts and discussing how they can be used on a loom with at least 3 shafts. This is an excellent class for shaft loom weavers who are structure nerds because you will create multiple structures (Summer and Winter, False Damask, Tabby, Taquete… etc) by manipulating slot threads while the heddles act as shafts one and two. Carly recommends this workshop for rigid heddle weavers, curious floor loom weavers with a little rigid heddle experience, and weavers curious about shaft switching. You can find more information about Carly’s work at: Love Like Salt
Students must provide all tools and materials including a warped rigid heddle loom (8/2 or 10/2 cotton) and three heddles (10 or 12.5 epi). Threading will be done in class with instructions provided in advance. Loom stands are optional. The class is appropriate for beginner/intermediate weavers- students should be able to direct warp a RH loom, weave and finish a successful project in a cotton warp (such as the doubled 8/2). Students will leave the weekend with a basic understanding of drafts and how to thread for double density (doubled epi) and have a reference sample of structure experiments and reference materials for future projects.
DATE: Saturday and Sunday, March 14 & 15, 2026. 9am – 4pm
LOCATION: Ruthie’s Weaving Studio. 4701 SE 24th Ave Suite Z, Portland, OR 97202
PHG determines workshop fees on a sliding scale based on the number of participants. Here is a sampling of estimated workshop fees for PHG and WEGO-affiliated guild members by number of participants:

WORKSHOP BREAKDOWN:
Day1 – Double Density Threading: Class covers threading and discussion of how the threading correlates to a 3 shaft draft. Student will weave sample of: high ep tabby, summer & winter, point twill, false damask pick-up, and doubleweave and pick up twills.
Day 2 – 4 Shaft Twill: Builds on Day 1, adding a third heddle and interpreting 4 -shaft drafts. For the second day, you will re-thread the same warp into a twill and cover reading a draft and how to read and weave four shaft structures. This is good for beginners because we will cover drafts from the ground up
