Online Learning

There’s several good places to learn weaving online. Here’s a few of our favorites.

Jane Stafford Online Guild – Learn to Weave Online

“The Online Guild launched in January 2017 as a response to weavers wanting to come to Salt Spring Island to study in our studio. Our wait lists were getting longer and longer each year, so Jane decided to try a different approach. This was to take the beginners workshop she offered, flesh it out with more wonderful content and offer it by way of streaming on the great inter web. The immediate response spurred her on. She decided to take every one of her workshops, expand them in greater detail and now we have over 30 videos available online.”

Kelly Casanova

“Hi, I’m Kelly! I am very blessed to be able to pass my passion for weaving on to thousands of students all over the world. I teach in a way that is relaxed and unrushed. I share everything that I can think of to help you grasp a concept, and most classes are step by step, project based learning. I don’t feel like a teacher, more a weaving friend who is eager to show you some really cool things! So, grab a cuppa, pull up your weaving chair, and let’s get learning!”

The Handweaving Academy

At The Handweaving Academy, we help members gain the mastery they need to explore the world of weaving.

“Weavers are all trying to solve the same tangled puzzle: how to make cloth that helps us express our creativity. Yet when you’re weaving, even small changes in the weight of your beater, the warp’s sett, or the colors you use can change your fabric substantially. If you don’t understand how these changes affect your fabric, it will be hard to predict what will happen. This makes it hard to explore, because you’re constantly coming up against roadblocks!”

Long Thread Media (publisher of Handwoven Magazine)

“Learn from the World’s Best Spinners, Weavers, and Artists. Access 165+ streaming video courses, bringing you up close to experts in spinning, weaving, needleworking, felting, and dyeing.”

Schacht School of Textile Arts

“We strive to provide the highest quality learning environment, whether online or in-person. Our courses are structured for success and taught by masters in both teaching and their subject.”
