Community

Weaving isn’t really a group sport. And yet people are social animals, and we want to gather with others who have the same interest, both to share what we’ve done, but also to see what others have done to learn and be inspired. PHG creates community in many different ways.

  • Monthly meetings and programs: Each month the guild gathers to meet new weavers who have joined the group, share what we’ve been working on, and listen to a speaker to learn and be inspired. And of course each meeting includes time to socialize and chat with other fiber friends.
  • Study Groups: Fiber Arts covers a lot of territory, and while it’s all interesting and fun we all have affinities for certain tools or techniques. Study groups allow us to gather with a smaller group of folks with an interest in that same topic to share and learn together.
  • Yearly Retreat: Each year the guild sneaks away for a couple days for a retreat. If you’ve never done a fiber retreat you owe it to yourself to give it a try. It’s a great way to grow stronger ties to the group, make new friends, and share good times with old friends. What do we do on a retreat? Just about anything fiber related, or not. It’s 3 days away where you don’t have to cook, so relax and do what you like. Bring a UFO (unfinished object) and make a little more progress. See what others are working on. Help someone out with a project. It’s very unstructured, and open to just about anything.
  • Outreach at Sales and Shows: Wether it’s Gathering of the Guilds, Art In the Pearl, or one of the many other art events in town you’ll often find folks from PHG there demonstrating the art and craft of weaving and fiber art. It’s lots of fun, and you meet lots of people who really appreciate seeing what we do and who want to know more.

And once you get to know us there are lots of ways to increase your level of involvement through participation and volunteering. Whether you’re new to the craft, or to the area, or both, we hope you’ll come join us.
