Meeting April 23 2024

Who was there: Sue, Kay, Peggy, Lynne, Constance, Dan, Billy, and Cindy

Demonstration

Lynne demonstrated Pebble Weaving on her Windhaven Accordion loom. There was a discussion of the Pebble Weaving technique, and ways to achieve the three sheds (Pebble Weave 1, Pebble Weave 2, and Heddled). Lynne uses the picking cross technique; Kay uses actual sheds created with half heddles. There was also a discussion of the pluses and minuses of the Windhaven Accordion loom. Note that Laverne Waddington puts Pebble Weave in the class of Complementary Pickup Weaves.

Dan noted that Marion Verloop has some nice Pebble Weave videos.

Constance demonstrated the tablet weaving loom she created with a board and 2 drawer pulls, and a couple of chip clips (IKEA/Bevara clips). She’s weaving a wool warp (Borgs Tuna), and sized it with gelatine.

We talked about pickup weaving with band heddles. The book Simple Weave by Kerstin Neumüller discusses hand carved heddles.

Next Friday Meeting (May 17, 11-1 at Ruthie’s)

Lynne will demonstrate pickup band weaving with a Sunna-type heddle (to that end, she located and 3D printed a 7 pattern thread heddle)

We will also discuss what we will be presenting at the June general meeting. Be thinking on that.

Next Tuesday Meeting (June, unscheduled)

Constance will present the various tablet weaving notations and how she interprets/converts them. She’ll also weave with dowels as the weft so what the turns are doing is made obvious.
