An Important Message From PHG President Chris Rossi
In order to reach the maximum number of guild members, this message is being shared via the subscriber newsletter and the Mailchimp mailing list. Our apologies if you receive this letter twice.
I am sending this email to the Guild membership to get one special member to be PHG president next year. It is not a difficult job, it is not a time-eating job, it is an opportunity to help guide the Guild as we emerge from the restraints of the pandemic and be all that we want to be.
It is also an extremely critical job: by Oregon law a non-profit organization is required to have a president and secretary. Without a president PHG will cease to exist. There will be no fabulous workshops, no camaraderie with other weavers, no inspiring programs. We will have to sell the rental equipment and library books. Do we want to be the generation that allows this wonderful organization to die because we are too busy with our own lives to contribute to other’s lives?
The Portland Handweavers Guild was started by three intrepid women 80 years ago during the midst of World War II. Since then it has grown into an awe-inspiring organization beloved by many members. I was reminded how much the Guild means to members when we recently received equipment and cash donations in memory of two deceased members. Both families explained that the Guild was a very important part of the members’ lives. I loved hearing that; I loved knowing that PHG provided a warm place for folks.
There is much to look forward to in the coming years: programs, workshops, new study groups, new friendships. Please play your part by volunteering to be President. And since the Board has voted to continue holding Board meetings on Zoom, you don’t even have to drive into Portland. It is an action you will never regret. I would love to hear from you; my email is chrisrossi14@gmail.com.
Best regards,
Chris Rossi, President Portland Handweavers Guild
