“I want to be remembered because I made somebody smile and care.” – Darcelle XV
Walter Cole, better known as Darcelle XV, was a dazzling force of transformation, activism, and self-expression. As the world’s oldest working drag performer (crowned by Guinness Book of World Records 2016), Darcelle broke boundaries – not just in sequins and spotlight, but in spirit. For over five decades, she made Portland shimmer with more than glitter; she created space for queer joy, resistance, and resilience. Her stage became a sanctuary for those living boldly and unapologetically.

This tapestry portrait honors Darcelle XV as a drag and cultural icon, community leader and important figure in LGBTQIA history. Amy wove this piece in 2025 in Portland, Oregon in cotton warp, wool, acrylic and metallic weft.
