Small Looms Study Group meeting minutes
5 April 2025
A child’s toy, the LoopDeLoom peg loom was brought in and played with. It can only make weft dominant fabric but is faster than a wooden peg loom that others were familiar with.
Double rigid heddle double width weaving was demonstrated. 40 inch wide fabric can be made on a 20 inch wide loom.
The thread passes through the sheds in the sequence: top, bottom, bottom, top.
Two pick up sticks (one for each level) are used behind the heddles.
The rigid heddle loom was decorated with many pretty animals.
Next meeting a clover bloom loom will be brought in and demonstrated. This type of loom makes plain weave but is much faster to setup that a rigid heddle loom.
We talked about the Krokbragh book by Debby Greenlaw.
We discussed one member’s experience with direct warping a rigid heddle with a warping board. This saves space compared to warping with a post but takes longer. By watching a number of youtube videos it was eventually discovered how to shorten the process by not treating the warping board like the post.
https://www.telaisalusso.com/en-gb/home This website is for a Italian man who makes Clover Bloom looms. Two members have some of his equivalent and really like it. One configuration/model is very portable.
We talked a little about locker hooking rug making which is not a weaving thing.
One show-n-tell item was a single thread clasped weft scarf with a structured pattern. It was made from the warp setup the last meeting.
We talked a little bit about whether we should spend more effort with organized study. We decided if we get feedback from the guild leadership, we will think about it more. Right now everyone seems to enjoy coming and we consistently learn stuff.
The next meeting is back to our regular last Saturday of the Month (April 26th) from 1 to 3 at Ruthies.
